Information You Provide
Search Entries
When a name, location, or other search term is entered into a third-party search box, that query is sent to the provider that operates the tool. Winnebago County Inmate Population does not keep a separate local log of those search terms.
Messages
If you send an email or contact message, the information in that message may be kept long enough to read it, respond, and manage the request. We do not share contact messages outside the organization unless a valid legal requirement calls for disclosure.
Automatic Site Data
Like most websites, this site may receive basic technical data when pages load. That data helps diagnose errors, measure traffic, and protect the site from misuse.
- IP address and general network information.
- Browser name, version, and settings.
- Device type and operating system.
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them.
- Referring website or search source, when available.
- Date and time stamps tied to visits and requests.
Cookies
Cookies and similar tools may be used to understand how visitors move through the site and to support ads or analytics. Browser settings can block or delete cookies, though some features may work differently when cookies are disabled.
How Data Is Used
- To keep the site available, readable, and reasonably fast.
- To send search requests to the partner service selected by the user.
- To learn which Winnebago County records pages are useful.
- To find broken links, errors, abuse attempts, or technical failures.
- To support advertising that may reflect general browsing interests.
Outside Websites
This site links to government pages, jail and sheriff resources, Iowa Courts Online, Iowa DOC Offender Search, VINELink, BOP, ICE, and third-party search tools. Once a visitor leaves this site, the other website's privacy notice and terms control that visit.
Some advertising or analytics partners may use their own systems to recognize activity across websites. That tracking is handled by those partners, not by a county office, jail, or Iowa open-records custodian. Iowa Code chapter 22 governs many public-records requests to public agencies, but it does not control how private ad networks handle web analytics.
Who May Receive Data
We do not sell personal contact messages. Limited data may be received or processed by the following parties when needed for site operations or legal compliance.
- Search partners that process lookup queries.
- Analytics providers that measure site use.
- Advertising networks that display or measure ads.
- Law-enforcement, court, or government bodies when a valid subpoena, warrant, court order, or similar legal demand requires it.
Security Measures
Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used to protect information handled through the site. No internet-connected website, email system, search partner, or advertising platform can be promised as breach-proof.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor has sent personal information, a deletion request can be made through the contact route.
Your Data Choices
- Ask for a copy of personal information we maintain about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate contact information.
- Ask that personal information be deleted where applicable.
- Opt out of certain processing when the law gives that choice.
Notice Updates
This privacy notice may be revised from time to time. Updated wording will be posted on this page with the new effective version reflected by the posted page.
